FLORIDA HOUSE PASSES ULTRASOUND BILL HB 1143 TODAY

FLORIDA PRO-LIFE ULTRASOUND BILL HB 1143 PASSES HOUSE

Florida House passes Pro-Life Ultrasound Abortion Bill HB 1143 by a vote of 76 to 44.

Bill Now heads to the Desk of Governor Crist for Signature

Will he Approve it or Veto it?

On the final day of voting, Florida legislators pass what is seemingly one of the most contentious bills on the house floor.

Rep. Anitere Flores found it baffling that legislators would wait until the last day of session to debate and vote on a bill that would curtail the number of abortions that take place in Florida. Rep. Gardner, of Orlando stated that this bill would extend the ultrasound requirement to the first-trimester, which now accounts for about 90% of abortions in Florida.

On Thursday, The Senate approved the bill by a 26-13 vote Thursday afternoon after an hour of emotional debate from both sides.

The measure requires women wanting an abortion to have an ultrasound, view it and listen to a medical professional's description of the fetus from the ultrasound. It exempts women from viewing it if they sign a form saying they are not being coerced to have an abortion, and it exempts them from hearing about it if they can prove they were victims of rape, incest or other crimes. But any woman wanting an abortion would have to have to pay $400.00 for the ultrasound.

The measure passed by a 76-44 vote and is Now headed to Gov. Charlie Crist.

Contact Governor Crist and ask him to sign the bill into law as soon as it hits his desk.
